Library Access Services Work Study students support the Access Services staff in Schaffer Library with various projects and provide service point coverage as needed. The Library Access Services Work Study student will staff the Library Service Desk during open building hours, with some work hours dedicated to item retrieval and stacks maintenance. Training will be provided, with the expectation that Work Study students will sometimes perform physical tasks that require bending, lifting, and moving

Duties and Responsibilities
Library Service Desk
Greet library patrons as they approach the desk
Check materials in and out to patrons.
Answer questions to the best of your ability. Refer questions to staff as needed.
Retrieve patron requests for specific books, articles, media.
Light typing and/or data entry
Stacks maintenance
Learn the Library of Congress Classification system.
Sort, shelve, organize, and shift library materials as directed by full-time staff
Load/unload/move fully loaded book trucks
Perform collection inventory and material shifts
Scan article and book chapter pages for electronic delivery
Environmental factors:
Library Access Services Work Study students will encounter exposure to dust while handling library materials.
Building shelving is floor level to 7 feet high.
Qualification:
Overall
Good attendance; we expect you to be on time and work each shift in full.
Ability to work both in a team environment and independently.
Willingness and ability to substitute for open shifts as needed.
Strong attention to detail.
Customer service
Good communication skills and the ability to deal with people in a friendly, tactful manner.
Be able to schedule a combination of weekday, weekend and night shifts to provide service and assistance for patrons during library hours of operation (till midnight or later).
Some work experience in a public service capacity (preferred).
