About the role
The Facility Manager is responsible for the overall management and maintenance of the operational facilities within Sulzer La Porte and associated satellite locations. You will have 2 direct reports and a team of 30 employees.

Ensure the facility operates safely, efficiently, and in full support of the Operational Business.
Develop and implement a robust preventive maintenance program to minimize unplanned downtime, extend the life of critical assets, and improve operational reliability.
Work with the Maintenance Supervisor to ensure that all machine tools, cranes, HVAC units, air compressors, and auxiliary systems are proactively maintained, reducing costly disruptions to production.
Oversee warehousing, inventory, and customer storage. Ensuring parts, tools, and materials are strategically stored to minimize retrieval time, reduce handling inefficiencies, and improve workplace organization.
Work closely with the inventory management team to refine storage solutions, streamline material movement, and optimize space utilization to maximize facility throughput.
Coordinate all contractors performing work on-site, including those involved in construction, maintenance, and specialized system repairs. Including selecting vendors, negotiating contracts, ensuring work is completed on schedule and within budget, and enforcing all safety and compliance standards.
Act as the primary point of contact for external service providers, ensuring that all projects align with the facility’s operational goals.
Integrate preventive maintenance, inventory organization, space utilization, and contractor coordination, the Facility Manager ensures that the facility remains a high-performance environment capable of meeting the demands of a fast-paced, precision-driven industry.
Requirements
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Industrial Operations, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
7+ years of experience in facility management, industrial operations, or maintenance leadership, preferably in a high-tech manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
Proven experience managing maintenance teams, construction projects, inventory operations, and contractor coordination in a complex industrial setting.
Strong background in preventive and predictive maintenance programs for industrial equipment and building infrastructure.
Experience with inventory management, space optimization, and logistics in a facility with work-in-progress materials.
Demonstrated success in managing large-scale facility projects, including expansions, renovations, and utility upgrades.
Experience overseeing waste management, environmental compliance, and sustainability initiatives.
Technical Skills & Knowledge:
Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and structural systems in an industrial facility.
Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and ERP systems for tracking maintenance and inventory.
Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other relevant safety and environmental regulations.
Strong understanding of contractor management, permitting, and construction oversight.
Ability to analyze facility operations and implement process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma)
Leadership & Soft Skills:
Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience overseeing multi-disciplinary teams.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive approach to facility challenges.
Effective communication and negotiation skills for working with contractors, vendors, regulatory agencies, and internal teams.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Strong budgeting and financial planning skills for managing facility-related expenditures.
