Position Overview
SUMMARY (BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB)
Ensures safe & appropriate medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, protocols and care-team collaboration. Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department. Demonstrate proficiency in information systems, including clinical information system, electronic medical records (EMR), and adjudication software. Effectively manages site-specific Community Pharmacy Programs. Adheres to all elements of Federal and New Jersey Pharmacy laws.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy. PharmD graduate of an ACPE Accredited School of Pharmacy preferred.
Experience: One year of hospital, community or specialty pharmacy experience preferred.
Other Credentialed Requirements:
AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider, Pharmacist – Registered
NJ immunization License/Approval
Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
High Level multitasking competency while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
Ability to leverage and master a variety of EMR systems
Desire to provide care appropriate to patients of all age groups served by the Pharmacy
Level of resourcefulness needed to solve problems involving multiple care entities and complex communications
Usual Work Day: 10 Hours
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· On a shift-by-shift basis, oversee the daily operation of the employee pharmacy to ensure that patient pharmaceutical needs are met effectively and efficiently. Supervise and direct pharmacy support personnel (technicians, delivery staff, etc.)
· Work independently with minimal supervision. Organize and prioritize work assignments.
· Participate in departmental quality improvement programs. Ensures that the employee pharmacy adheres to the standards and regulations established by all regulatory agencies, including NJ Board of Pharmacy and DEA.
· Effectively and concisely counsel patients as required in person, virtually, at bedside, via Outcomes MTMs or any other platform that services Community Pharmacy needs
· Support the PIC in maintaining a successful inventory management operation
· Perform all controlled substance transactions accurately and records in the appropriate log record according to both NJ state and Federal expectations.
· Start to finish processing of prescriptions including accurate 3rd party adjudication.
· Collaborate well with employees at all levels of the patient care management team to ensure accurate and effective patient-driven solutions.
· Maintain accurate and detailed records of all pharmaceutical activities, including (but not limited to) batch records, signature logs, quality control documentation, and invoices
· Strictly adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including the handling of hazardous drugs, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, hand hygiene and waste disposal.
· Desire to stay current with industry trends, guidelines, and best practices related to retail and specialty pharmacy through ongoing education and training.
· Answer phones and greet customers according to established etiquette
· Assume responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to ensure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management
· Embrace the added responsibility of new programs and initiatives as they are implemented into workflow and day to day operation (such as Meds to Beds, Hospital at Home, Specialty Pharmacy implementation, vaccine programs, etc.)
