Those in deal strategy at PwC will focus on providing strategic advice and support to clients in areas such as mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, and restructuring. Your work will involve analysing market trends, assessing business opportunities, and developing strategic frameworks to guide clients in making informed decisions regarding their deals. You will help clients navigate complex transactions, identify potential risks and opportunities, and develop strategies to maximise value and achieve their business objectives. Working in this area, you will play a crucial role in assisting clients in formulating and executing effective strategies to optimise outcomes in their deal-making processes.

Job Overview: S& serves four main go-to-market channels: Deal Execution (M&A), Post-Deal Value Creation, Portfolio Companies, Corporate and Public Sector Clients (non-deals) across industries (including Technology, Media, Telco, Consumer Products, Retail, Industrials, Professional Services, Energy, Financial Services, Healthcare, Pharma). Strategy& also includes a range of specialist capabilities, of which Economics is one. The Economics team works closely with colleagues across Strategy& and the wider PwC network, while also leading standalone economics engagements.
The Economics team consists of around 40 economists, and our work spans a range of areas including: competition economics; regulatory strategy in infrastructure and utilities (energy, water, payments); applied econometrics and data science; macroeconomic analysis; economic evaluation and impact assessment, and the application of behavioural science.
Responsibilities include:
Deliver high-quality economic analysis and quantitative assessments, using a range of economic techniques, to solve client problems
Build, review and update high quality economic models (e.g. forecasting models, demand models, costing models, input-output modelling, cost-benefit analysis and statistical analysis)
Create client-ready deliverables (PowerPoint slides and written outputs) with clear data visualization and concise commentary
Work closely with the UK S& team to fully support client engagements in a client-facing capacity
Uphold the firm's code of ethics and business conduct
Other areas:
Contribute to practice enablement and business development activities (proposal responses, client interactions, workshop preparation, etc.)
Deploy new tools and technologies including generative AI (genAI) as required
Develop and implement automation solutions and capabilities that are aligned to clients’ business requirements
Know how and when to use tools available for a given situation and explain reasons for this choice
Keep up to date with local and global business, economic and policy issues relevant to our clients
Use feedback and reflection to develop self-awareness, personal strengths and address development areas
Use straightforward communication, in a structured way, when influencing and connecting with others
Essential Experience, Skills and Educational Background:
2-3 years of relevant experience with an emphasis on economic research, strategy consulting, quantitative analysis and project delivery.
Strong knowledge and understanding of Economic Impact Assessment, Industrial Organisation, Regulatory Economics, Competition Economics
We are open to applicants with different educational backgrounds as long as they are able to demonstrate strong interest and understanding in economic research, policy analysis and strategy consulting.
Strong academic credentials, analytical ability and evidence-based problem-solving skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate complex economic concepts clearly to non-specialists.
Desired Experience, Skills and Educational Background:
Preferably a Master’s degree in Economics (with an emphasis on Econometrics, Public Policy or Development Economics), MBA or CA with an economics or finance focus is also valued.
Excellent quantitative analysis or econometric skills, including working with large datasets and producing defensible quantitative insights
Understanding of finance and accounting concepts, and ability to link economic drivers to business performance and value creation
CFA, Financial Analysis, Financial Modelling will be an added advantage.
Advanced Excel proficiency, including building and auditing models; strong attention to detail and ability to identify errors and patterns in data
Advanced skills in scripted languages such as R, Stata or Python are also valued
Relevant experience in creating client-ready deliverables, including PowerPoint slides and written reports
Experience with data visualisation tools like Power BI and other similar tools is an asset
Multi-tasking and balancing time effectively, keeping a rapid pace without sacrificing quality
Collaborative working style and confidence engaging with stakeholders across geographies and seniority levels
