Senior Maintenance Specialist (Electrical)
Overview
The primary role of the Electrical Maintenance Services Specialist is to provide technical expertise in support of electrical pipeline equipment maintenance and repair across Marathon Pipe Line operations. This position will support the Martinsville area, and will include Marathon MPL facilities primarily in Indiana and Illinois. It is preferred that the specialist live in the Martinsville service area (Indiana, Illinois, NW Kentucky) in order to facilitate timely expertise and services in that area.
Responsibilities
Provide field leadership / guidance during equipment breakdown and emergency response activities.
Assist Operations and Reliability Engineering with equipment sparing decisions / plans
Maintain equipment vendor relationships and audit vendor processes
Make determinations on routine equipment replacement
Provide cost and schedule estimates for equipment repair / replacement activities
Support and assist with schedule impacts for equipment downtime / replacement / repair
Provide field construction guidance for maintenance and expansion projects
Assist with the technical development of Electrical Technicians and Engineering Project Leaders
Provide offsite (shop) equipment repair, refurbishment, and testing expertise
Evaluate and communicate likelihood of equipment failure, repair/replacement time frames, costs and other pertinent information for individual pieces of critical equipment
Assist with decommissioning / recommissioning related to maintenance activities and project work
Helping MPL, MPLX and MPC achieve department and company goals, including the implementation of new technology, safety-improvement and energy-saving initiatives
Work with third parties including contactors, engineering consultants, manufacturer reps, equipment vendors, the local utilities, inspectors and other pipeline companies as necessary
Assist with research and evaluation of manufacturers for the purchase of equipment.
Assist Electrical Reliability Manager with setting budgets and goals for upcoming years.
Assist other Electrical SMEs as needed Participate in equipment failure analysis and taproot investigations as needed.
Must possess an electrical safety mindset
Maintain Technical Competency and have working knowledge of the following equipment:
Switchgear
MCCs
VFDs
Transformers
Motors
MV circuit breakers
MV substation equipment
MV cables
Conduit, cable tray and other raceways
Overhead and underground power distribution systems
Desired Skillsets:
Protective Relay programming and diagnostics (SEL, GE Multilin e.g.)
Ability to read and comprehend One-line power diagrams, ETAP experience is a plus
Experience with large motor troubleshooting and diagnostics. PDMA experience is a plus
Good working knowledge of the NEC and NFPA 70E
Qualifications
Degree: Not required, but Electrical Engineering degree is preferred.
Technical Years Experience Required: Four (4) years or more of pipeline operations, engineering or maintenance experience (or equivalent) preferred.
Travel Required (%): 50% (mostly day trips).
A valid driver's license is required.
A successful candidate will be required to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) with company funding.
