1. Reporting & SAR Management

• Receive, evaluate, and where appropriate submit Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) to the FIAU in a timely manner.
• Maintain an accurate and complete internal suspicion reporting register.
• Ensure escalation protocols from front-line staff are clearly defined, trained, and operational.

1. Customer Due Diligence (CDD) & Monitoring

• Oversee the end-to-end CDD lifecycle including Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) for high-risk customers, PEPs, and sanctioned individuals.
• Supervise transaction monitoring operations; review and act on system-generated alerts and case escalations.
• Ensure Source of Funds (SOF) and Source of Wealth (SOW) verification processes are fit-for-purpose and consistently applied.

1. Regulatory Liaison & Governance

• Serve as the company’s designated point of contact with the MGA, FIAU, and law enforcement on all AML/CFT matters.
• Prepare and submit the Annual MLRO Report to the Board of Directors and relevant regulatory bodies as required.
• Lead regulatory examinations, audits, and information requests related to AML/CFT compliance.
• Attend Board and Compliance Committee meetings; report on material AML/CFT risks, incidents, and programme effectiveness.

1. Training & Culture

• Design and deliver AML/CFT training programmes for all relevant staff, including onboarding and ongoing refresher training.
• Foster a culture of compliance and ethical conduct throughout the organisation.

1. Systems & Technology

• Oversee and optimise transaction monitoring, KYC, and AML screening technology platforms.
• Collaborate with product and technology teams on player journey design to ensure compliance requirements are embedded by default.

1. B2B Counterparty Due Diligence

• Establish and maintain a risk-based CDD framework for all B2B business relationships, including operator clients, technology partners, payment service providers, and affiliate networks.
• Conduct and document Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) on high-risk B2B counterparties, including assessment of their own AML/CFT programmes, licensing status, and beneficial ownership structures.
• Maintain an up-to-date B2B client risk register and ensure periodic relationship reviews are conducted in line with risk appetite.

1. Operator Oversight & Contractual AML Controls

• Ensure AML/CFT obligations are appropriately embedded in B2B service agreements, including representations, warranties, and audit rights relating to counterparty AML compliance.
• Oversee the design and implementation of contractual AML controls where the company’s services are used by downstream operators as part of their own regulated activities.
• Where applicable, maintain visibility of downstream operator compliance standards and escalate concerns where a B2B client’s conduct poses AML/CFT risk to the company.

1. B2B Policy & Governance

• Develop and maintain B2B-specific AML/CFT policies and procedures, including a B2B Onboarding Policy, Counterparty Risk Assessment Methodology, and an Ongoing Monitoring Schedule.
• Conduct periodic B2B-focused AML risk assessments as part of the company’s broader enterprise risk management process.
• Provide AML/CFT guidance to commercial and business development teams during new B2B partner negotiations to ensure risk is identified and addressed prior to onboarding.

Qualifications & Essential Experience

• Minimum 3 years’ direct AML/CFT compliance experience within the online gaming or iGaming industry, covering B2C player-facing operations.
• Demonstrated experience in an MLRO role at an MGA-licensed operator.
• Experience with B2B AML compliance, including counterparty due diligence, operator oversight frameworks, or compliance services supplied to licensed operators.
• Current MGA Key Function approval as MLRO or demonstrated ability to obtain MGA approval within an agreed timeframe.
• In-depth knowledge of the Maltese AML/CFT legal and regulatory framework: PMLA, FIAU Implementing Procedures (Gaming Sector), and MGA’s player protection requirements.
• Hands-on experience with CDD/EDD processes, transaction monitoring systems, and STR submission procedures.
• Strong understanding of the MGA’s Gaming Authorisations Regulations and compliance reporting obligations.
• Professional AML qualification: ICA Certificate/Diploma in AML, CAMS, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with FATF recommendations and EU AML Directives as they apply to the gaming sector.
• Exposure to responsible gambling frameworks (Player Protection Directive) and their intersection with AML controls.
