

Position Title: Summer Assistant, Newcomer Youth Programs
Start Date: June 29, 2026
End Date: August 21, 2026
Rate of Pay: $17.60/hour
Reports To: Manager, Children, Youth, and Families
Hours: Full-time (35 hours/week) 8-week contract
Location: 255 Ranee Avenue, Hybrid

Must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protections Act and;
Must be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations

Position Summary:
The Summer Assistant will provide planning and program support for the Newcomer Youth Programs during July and August.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning & Program Delivery
Assist in the planning and implementation of culturally appropriate activities that promote the social, physical, and intellectual development of immigrant youth aged 14-19
Provide support to NYCH Workers, program participants, and volunteers
Assist in developing and supporting the facilitation of online summer youth programming
Support in supervising participants during field trips and community outings to ensure safety and positive participation.
Support during outdoor sports and recreational activities, ensuring participant safety, engagement, inclusion, and adherence to program guidelines.
Support with program outreach, communicate with participants and engage using social media tools
Participate in youth network meetings to help address the barriers youth are facing
Work with youth, agency staff, and community partners to implement online and in-person workshops and events
Flexibility to work with multiple supervisors and different summer programs
Participate in NYCH training and team meetings as required
Additional support and duties as required
Documentation and reporting
Record and submit program attendance, volunteer hours, registration, and other reports as required
Produce reports summarizing activities and statistics at the end of each session
Submit Canada Summer Jobs staff attendance forms regularly and on time
Position Requirements:
Education
Experience and Skills
Lived experience and/or experience working with newcomer youths
Previous experience facilitating and co-facilitating workshops in-person and hybrid, and the willingness to learn
Knowledge and experience with online tools, including social media (i.e., Zoom, Google Docs, Facebook Live, Instagram Live, TikTok, Discord, etc.)
Highly creative, positive attitude, and ability to work well in a team environment
Responsible, dependable, and punctual, with timely communication with staff/supervisor
Assets
Previous experience participating in or volunteering with NYCH programs and events
Oral and written communication skills in another language (s), including Tagalog
Experience leading or teaching engaging youth activities such as arts-based and creative programming
First aid/CPR training
Other Requirements:
NYCH supports the process of getting updated police reference checks upon employment
Access to quality Wi-Fi, phone, laptop, or computer with camera and sound
Regular hours are typically from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm; some evening and weekend work is required.
