The Environmental Operator is the one who operates and maintenance of solid waste handling equipment; to include solid waste separation, handling, storage, disposal and equipment cleanliness.
Be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and carry out the responsibilities within the Safety Management System (SMS).
Carry out responsibilities in Safety Organization according to the ship’s Emergency Plan and Station Bill.
Know and follow all specific waste handling procedures in SMS, as per training, following standing orders and ship’s posted procedures.
Operate all machinery properly as per training and ship procedures.
Be familiar with the operation/limitation of all environmental equipment assigned, such as the incinerator, pulper, tin can crusher, glass crusher, etc.
Maintain environmental equipment/gear when ordered/requested.
Keep garbage areas clean and tidy.
Collect and segregate garbage in respect to company policy.
Assist in garbage off-loads.
Impose and maintain safety/environmental consciousness.
Be observant and alert in order to propose suggestions to other crew members about improvement in environmental related matters.
Inform EO if any improper waste segregation or any other violation of company policy is observed.
Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.
The Environmental Operator will be given full access to all employees and to all areas of the ship.
This position needs to ensure that all ship waste management systems are functioning properly.
The Environmental Operator reports directly to the Environmental Officer (EO) and assists them as needed or required.
Administer the NCL Environmental Program onboard, including all environmental training and compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of one year experience working in a machine shop or related industrial environment is required.
Basic to Intermediate level English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or foreign equivalent is required.
Position-specific STCW training from an accredited educational institution is required.

REQUIRED ABILITIES / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the essential functions of this job, all team members are required to stand; walk long distances on the ship; use hands to touch, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear, taste and smell. All vessel positions require repetitive motion of bending, climbing, going up and down stairs and lifting more than 25 pounds. This job requires specific vision abilities to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
