During this appointment, I anticipate that you will have an opportunity to gain training in social
psychological methods and analysis, particularly as they apply to understanding various forms of
economic and educational inequality. Your interest in these topics will provide a strong
foundation for you to develop critical skills under my mentorship and that of the Ph.D. students
in our lab. You will receive training in experimental design and quantitative analysis using the
statistical program R while learning about core social psychological literatures on related topics
such as intergroup prejudice, attitudes, and identity.
Your appointment will include weekly one-on-one and full lab meetings that will not only
expose you to social psychological theory and methods but also help inform your own trajectory
toward pursuing a Ph.D. in related fields. Furthermore, you will be expected to develop your
own lines of research, including developing survey measures, administering experiments, and
analyzing and reporting your findings to a breadth of audiences. Through this process, you will
have opportunities to engage with additional faculty within the Department of Psychology as you
further develop your research interests and approach.
