Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President, Mining, the Senior Mine Engineer is responsible for mine planning, design, and optimization activities to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective mining operations. This role plays a key part in driving the strategic direction of the mining operations, and ensuring alignment between operational execution and strategic mine objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and support the execution of mine designs and plans for the restart of mining operations
Design and optimize open pit and/or underground mine layouts, including haul roads, ramps, stopes, and sequencing
Ensure all mine plans comply with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and environmental guidelines
Collaborate closely with exploration, operations/mining contractors, permitting, and other site teams to align plans and ensure successful execution
Support and manage engineering consultants on studies as required
Monitor mine performance and reconcile actual results against plan; identify variances and implement improvements
Conduct economic evaluations, cost analysis, and productivity assessments
Mentor and supervise junior mine engineers and technical staff
Support budgeting, forecasting, and life-of-mine planning activities and capital projects
Implement and maintain mine planning software and systems
Develop mine planning processes and procedures
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence programs
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline (Master’s degree is an asset)
Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain in Nevada preferred
Minimum 10 years of mining experience, with strong exposure to planning and operations
Experience in open pit and underground operations
Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik)
Strong understanding of drill & blast, geotechnical considerations, and mine economics
Knowledge of U.S. mining regulations (MSHA standards)
