Job Overview
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing the company's fleet of trucks, trailers, diesel engines, and landscape equipment. This role ensure that all vehicles and machinery are safe, reliable, and operating at peak performance to support field operations across all service lines.
Responsibilities and Duties
Perform routine and preventative maintenance on diesel trucks, trailers, skid steers, loaders, excavators, tree service equipment, and small engines
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and emissions-related issues using diagnostic tools and testing equipment
Complete repairs including engine work, brake systems, suspension, and hydraulics as needed
Conduct safety inspections and DOT-compliant checks on fleet vehicles; document findings and repairs as needed
Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and equipment condition in the fleet management system(s)
Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns in the shop and occasionally in the field
Recommend improvements to maintenance processes, schedules, and equipment life cycles
Keep the shop clean, safe, and organized; follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements
Assist with parts ordering, inventory management, and vendor coordination as needed
Support seasonal equipment prep, including spring commissioning and winterization
Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
2+ years as a mechanic at the journeyman level in the power equipment industry
Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and equipment diagnostics
Ability to read technical manuals and schematics
Valid drivers license; CDL Class A, preferred
Own basic tools needed to perform repairs
Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
