The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) cares for post-surgical patients waiting for their anesthesia to wear off. The Nightingale RN role requires an experienced, recently retired hospital nurse who is passionate about mentoring and supporting the next generation of nurses. This position harnesses the skills of an experienced RN who recently retired but wants to transfer their knowledge to newer nurses within the organization. The Nightingale RN provides high-quality nursing care in accordance with the healthcare organization’s established policies, procedures, and protocols.
A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) variable shifts.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide coaching, teaching, and educational material as appropriate.
Provide assessments and audits of daily practice.
Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
Assess the educational needs of the patient and significant others considering cultural issues and other special concerns.
Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established healthcare organization policies, procedures, and protocols.
Implement and monitor patient care plans.
Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
Monitor and document patient's condition and effectiveness and timeliness of care and/or interventions.
Evaluate, update, and revise plan of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes.
Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing protocol.
Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
Validate and document patient and family understanding of teaching.
Maintain professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Three years of experience in ASC OR Nurse position at Cleveland Clinic prior to retirement
Current demonstrated clinical competence
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR American Red Cross
