Actuarial Specialist, Mortality
C****losing date: 9th June 2026
We have an exciting opportunity for an Actuarial Specialist to join the Basis Review team on a 9 month secondment. This is a great job for a recently qualified or nearly qualified actuary who would like to gain some exposure to the end to end assumption review process - analyzing our mortality, morbidity and income protection experience, developing assumptions and presenting and explaining them to senior management and auditors.
A bit about the job:
Within this role, you will be part of a team of three which is responsible for specifying methodology and gaining insights from the analysis of our mortality, morbidity and income protection experience and in developing assumptions and taking them through governance. This involves getting expert input from across the business, specifying proposed assumptions, writing technical papers and presenting to decision makers.
The work of the team is split in such a way that you would expect to take the lead in certain areas. You will collaborate closely with the Data Analytics team in the development of models, which seek to identify drivers of experience and with other teams with a stake in the outcomes such as pricing teams and business partnering. You will contribute to research into factors driving these assumptions and future changes in them that we might expect. Additionally, you will contribute to the overall team objective of ensuring that a strong risk management and controls environment is maintained.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
A qualified or nearly qualified actuary with an interest in demographic assumptions and statistical methods. Knowledge of life insurance products and how the various reporting and capital metrics work would be beneficial
Ability to work independently, prioritise and take responsibility for ensuring that deliverables are met
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across Finance and with other stakeholders across the business
Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex issues to senior stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
Whilst we expect the offered salary to fall within the applicable pay range, any specific offer will be reflective of experience and the market rate for the role.
