Learning Objectives for Interns:
1.Understanding of Research Fundamentals:
Objective: Interns will gain a foundational understanding of pediatric hematology/oncology research, including key concepts, methodologies, and ethical considerations.
Measurement: Assess understanding through quizzes, participation in discussions, and the ability to articulate research concepts in meetings.
Objective: Interns will actively participate in ongoing research projects, applying theoretical knowledge to practical situations.
Measurement: Evaluate contributions to research tasks, including data collection and analysis, through supervisor feedback and project outcomes.
Objective: Interns will acquire specific technical skills relevant to laboratory procedures and research methodologies in pediatrics hematology/oncology.
Measurement: Conduct practical assessments to demonstrate proficiency in laboratory techniques and data analysis software.
Objective: Interns will learn to work effectively within a research team, contributing to group projects and fostering a spirit of collaboration.
Measurement: Gather feedback from peers and supervisors on teamwork dynamics, participation in group activities, and ability to communicate effectively.
Objective: Interns will engage in professional development opportunities, building skills such as presentation, networking, and career planning.
Measurement: Monitor participation in workshops, seminars, and networking events, and assess the ability to present research findings to an audience.
Objective: Interns will understand the importance of diversity and inclusion within research environments and its impact on innovation.
Measurement: Evaluate reflections or essays on the significance of diversity in research and participation in discussions surrounding diversity initiatives.
Learning Outcomes Measurement:
Performance Evaluations: Regular feedback sessions with supervisors to review progress on research tasks, skill development, and contributions to the team.
Reflective Journals: Interns will maintain a journal documenting their experiences, challenges, and learning throughout the internship, which will be reviewed periodically.
Project Presentations: Interns will present their research findings at the end of the internship, showcasing their understanding and application of learned concepts.
Surveys and Self-Assessments: Interns will complete surveys at the beginning and end of the internship to assess their knowledge and skill growth, as well as their perceptions of diversity and inclusion in research.
Mentorship Meetings: One-on-one meetings with faculty mentors to discuss learning progress, set new goals, and provide guidance on career pathways in pediatrics hematology/oncology.
