Overview
Working in the Pollitt Lab, and under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the research assistant will develop and apply computational methods for automated processing of environmental chemical measurements generated by gas chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry. The developed methods will support analysis of wearable passive sampler exposure data collected from international cohorts, enabling consistent and scalable characterization of personal chemical exposures across diverse study populations and geographies.
Essential duties will include the establishment and validation of algorithms to identify chemical features in high-resolution mass spectrometry data, with a focus on automating targeted analytical workflows. The position will advance computational method harmonization across cohorts by optimizing the core components of targeted data processing to ensure reproducibility and comparability of exposure measurements.
The successful candidate will also work to integrate these targeted methods with findings from non-targeted analysis, supporting a unified analytical framework that captures both prioritized chemicals of concern and broader exposomic features.
Required Skills and Abilities
Clinical or Research Environment Experience: Ability to work well in clinical or research settings with a working knowledge of medical terminology and prior experience supporting research studies.
Data Management: Proficiency in data entry, data management, and basic analysis using tools such as Excel, SPSS, Python, or REDCap.
A strong foundation in analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry, with experience in high-resolution data processing, scripting, and method validation.
Familiarity with chromatographic data as well as suspect and non-targeted screening workflows.
Technological Proficiency: Proficiency with common research analytic software and lab equipment, including but not limited to MS Office applications, data-entry systems, and virtual meeting platforms.
