What you’ll do
As our Economic Crime Services Optimisation Lead, you’ll drive the multi‑year ECS optimisation strategy. You’ll translate Financial Conduct Authority and Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation expectations into a clear and actionable roadmap. Your work will strengthen Sanctions, Screening, Anti-Terrorist Financing, Anti-Bribery and Corruption, and Financial Transaction Reporting, securing full alignment with the wider Economic Crime Hub strategy. Comes with sound working knowledge of broader financial crime disciplines including AML transaction monitoring, customer due diligence, anti-bribery and corruption, anti-tax evasion, and fraud/risk controls interfaces to be able to effectively cast the ECS strategy.
Your work will focus on:
Driving end‑to‑end process optimisation, reducing failure demand and waste, improving detection quality, and delivering measurable outcomes including FTE savings, cycle‑time improvements, stronger controls, and enhanced first‑line risk management
Proven capability in list management & matching logic, false positive reduction, alert disposition workflows, data quality, lineage, and feed integrity, model/rule performance metrics, MI, testing, UAT, and change governance, operating model design across 1LOD / 2LOD / Operations / Technology
Translating regulatory requirements into a measurable optimisation roadmap, defining clear outcomes, risk uplifts, and performance improvements across ECS workflows
Strengthening first‑line risk management, so high‑risk workflows have embedded controls, quality MI, transparent governance, and improved detection outcomes
Championing AI, automation and advanced data‑driven capabilities, embedding tools and AI‑enabled first-line models to improve throughput, accuracy, and operational control effectiveness
Defining and enforcing data quality and technology standards, partnering with Technology and Data teams to improve platform performance, simplify estates, and secure reliable, well‑governed data supports optimisation
Influencing senior stakeholders across Economic Crime, Risk, COO and Technology to aligning priorities and representing optimisation in governance forums, providing evidence‑based assurance on progress, risks, control uplift, and regulatory remediation
The skills you'll need
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring a proven track record of leading large‑scale optimisation and transformation programmes within financial crime or risk environments, delivering measurable and sustainable outcomes. You’ll combine this with a strong understanding of financial crime typologies, including anti‑money laundering, sanctions, politically exposed persons and fraud, alongside knowledge of global regulatory frameworks and high‑risk processes.
You’ll also have experience leveraging data, analytics, automation and AI to enhance detection, improve operational performance and drive more effective, technology‑enabled approaches across ECS.
You’ll also demonstrate:
Experience engaging with regulators and governance forums, providing clear assurance on compliance and control effectiveness
Deep expertise in sanctions screening / name screening, including screening system configuration, matching methodologies, threshold tuning, and alert optimisation
Strong understanding of screening technologies, data architecture, and control dependencies across customer screening, payment screening, and watchlist management.
Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making capability, translating complex challenges into clear, actionable strategies that deliver tangible results
A track record of driving continuous improvement and cultural transformation, embedding innovation and stronger ways of working across large‑scale operations
