LUP is a Chilean design studio founded in 2014 with a mission to promote a creative, diverse, and environmentally friendly economy. They specialize in developing a small-scale and easily replicable recycling model that transforms plastic waste into a flexible fiber called "fibra lup." This fiber is then used to handcraft various objects in collaboration with artisans from different communities, complementing the use of natural fibers.
LUP works with local artisans in different regions of Chile, such as Mariquina, Chimbarongo, and Quinchao, to create unique pieces that incorporate their traditional techniques with the use of recycled plastic. This approach aims to increase recycling rates, support local commerce, and reduce the need for natural fibers, promoting sustainable economic activity in these communities. They offer online courses and workshops, as well as a shop for purchasing products and materials. LUP is a B Corporation, demonstrating their commitment to social and environmental impact.
