What you’ll be doing
CIBC Investor’s Edge User Experience team is a cross-disciplinary group of UI Designers, UX Designers, Researchers, and Content Designers, dedicated to delivering cohesive, scalable, and engaging digital experiences for our clients. As part of our UI team with a focus on Design Systems, you will play a key role in evolving and maintaining our design system, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and efficiency across our online and mobile platforms. You will collaborate closely with other UI designers and Technology teams to develop and document reusable components, patterns, and guidelines that empower product teams to deliver best-in-class experiences.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 2-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.
The expected annualized base salary range for this role is $52,890 to $68,440.
The base salary is determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, as well as geographic location and specific business needs. Our compensation philosophy supports ongoing growth and development, enabling progression within the salary range as team members advance in their roles.

Important information
You are enrolled in a post-secondary program in Digital Design, Product Design, Interaction Design, or a related field that focuses on design at the time of the work term, with a graduation of April 2027 or later.

Work Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid role; mandatory on-site days)
Duration of Work Term: 8 months (September 2026 – April 2027)

How you’ll succeed
Design System Development – Contribute to the creation, maintenance, and documentation of scalable UI components, patterns, and guidelines that form our design system. Ensure design system assets are up to date and accessible to all teams.
UI Consistency & Accessibility – Apply and advocate for design system standards to ensure consistency, accessibility, and brand alignment across products.
AI Integration & Exploration – Leverage and explore AI-powered design tools and workflows to enhance the efficiency, scalability, and innovation of our design system. Stay informed about the latest advancements in AI for design and prototyping.
Collaboration & Support – Work closely with designers and developers to ensure seamless implementation of design system components. Provide guidance and support on using the design system effectively.
Production Delivery – Prepare production-ready specs and documentation, following work through to implementation within an agile/iterative environment.
Creativity & Problem Solving – Leverage creative thinking to enhance and evolve the design system, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation.
Communication – Clearly articulate design system principles and rationale to peers and stakeholders through presentations, documentation, and workshops.
Time Management – Manage multiple concurrent objectives and activities, prioritizing effectively to deliver on deadlines.
Continuous Learning & Improvement – Stay current with industry best practices in design systems, accessibility, front-end technologies, and AI applications in design, bringing new ideas to the team.
Who you are
You are a design system enthusiast. You have a passion for building and maintaining design systems, component libraries, and scalable UI solutions.
You are proficient with Figma. You are skilled in using Figma for component creation, documentation, and prototyping. Experience with design system plugins and tokens is an asset.
You are AI-Curious Designer. You are interested in the intersection of design and artificial intelligence, and eager to explore how AI can support and accelerate design system development and UI/UX innovation.
You have technical acumen. You are familiar with front-end technologies (CSS, HTML) and how design systems integrate into development workflows. Exposure to Storybook or similar tools is a plus.
You know that details matter. You notice inconsistencies and strive for pixel-perfect execution in your work.
You have strong visual & interaction design skills. You have a solid understanding of layout, composition, typography, color theory, and accessibility.
You are an effective communicator. Able to clearly present and advocate for design system standards and best practices.
You are collaborative & adaptable. You thrive in a team environment, open to feedback, and eager to learn.
